Tallowwood Cottage

Tallowwood Cottage sits on a quiet acre in the Byron hinterland, about 15 minutes from the beach and well away from the noise of town. It’s a timber cottage with high ceilings, polished concrete floors, and the kind of stillness that’s hard to find closer to Byron.

The whole property has been fragrance-free since 2021. That means no synthetic cleaning products, no air fresheners, no scented candles, and no fragranced toiletries anywhere on site. Every product we use is listed in the What’s in this property section below so you know exactly what you’re walking into.

Bedding is 100% organic cotton. The mattress is a natural latex Avocado Green. There’s a water filter on the kitchen tap and an air purifier running in the bedroom. The cookware is stainless steel and cast iron — no Teflon anywhere in the kitchen.

The cottage sleeps two comfortably. There’s a king bed in the main bedroom, a small desk if you need to work, and a covered outdoor deck with views into the trees. Breakfast provisions are stocked on arrival — local eggs, sourdough from the Bangalow bakery, and oat milk.

We ask all guests to arrive fragrance-free and to use only the products provided during your stay. This is a genuine safe haven for people with chemical sensitivities and we want to keep it that way for everyone who comes after you.
